Abstract
An unambiguous and sensitive method based on gas chromatography-chemical ionization-mass spectrometry was developed to quantitate L-phenylalanine mustard [an antineoplastic drug] and was applied to measure levels in plasma of 5 patients receiving 0.15-0.25 mg/kg (10-17 mg) of the drug by mouth. Peak plasma levels of 50-190 ng/ml occurred between 0.7-2.3 h after ingestion. The time for the plasma level to fall to 1/2 of the peak value varied from 0.6-3 h, and very low levels (< 2 ng/ml) were present by 24 h.
