Abstract
Modeling and solution strategies of mathematical programing formulations of designs problems can benefit from existing monotonic properties. The concepts involved are reviewed and their utility in various optimization operations is discussed. Examples include optimality criteria, boundedness tests, Johnson’s method, and a general approach to optimization strategies. Keywords
