Case 70-1962

Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A thirty-seven-year-old woman was referred to the hospital because of hepatosplenomegaly.Eight years previously the patient began to experience episodes of vague, transient pain in the joints of the knees, ankles and wrists, accompanied by abdominal discomfort, weakness and malaise. She was told that she was anemic and given "iron pills" for a few months. Two years before admission abdominal swelling and flatulence began, with no associated nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. There was no melena, jaundice or hematemesis, but she bruised easily and had several episodes of epistaxis for a few months before entry. . . .
