Abstract
The effect on the radiation angular distribution from oriented nuclei of combined magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole interactions of comparable strengths in long lived intermediate states is studied. The particular relevance of such studies to the nuclear orientation of dilute bismuth impurities in the ferromagnetic metals is demonstrated and evidence for similarity of the nonsubstitutional sites occupied by the bismuth atoms in Fe and Ni hosts is briefly discussed. Keywords
