Abstract
Current understanding of the mechanisms of action of hormonal therapies in carcinomas of the breast, prostate, endometrium and ovary is briefly reviewed. The range of available hormonal therapies for each disease is considered together with response rates, toxicity and any evidence for survival benefit. Practical guidelines for the palliative use of hormonal therapies are suggested. Keywords
