A Prospective Study of Recreational Physical Activity and Breast Cancer Risk

Abstract
INCREASED PHYSICAL activity has been hypothesized to prevent breast cancer, largely by reducing cumulative lifetime exposure to circulating ovarian hormones. In some studies, physical activity has been associated with menstrual characteristics, body size, and fat stores,1-6 which in postmenopausal women are the locus of conversion of androstenedione to estrogen.7,8
