Abstract
Summary The use of Asbestos for spraying in buildings is prohibited since 1978. Unfortunately, many old buildings have been sprayed with asbestos several decades ago and these materials are now entering a phase of irreversible deterioration. A target level of 5 fibres per liter constitutes a guarantee for the occupants and pollution inside the premises is quite acceptable. To manage the problem on asbestos sprayed buildings, 3 situations have to be considered: – - No sign of deterioration: no corrective measures are required. – - Asbestos is beginning to deteriorate (pollution>5,25 f/l): the solution is to remove the asbestos using well defined procedures so as to avoid polluting surrounding areas and to protect removal workers. Keywords
