Abstract
This article gives an account of solid state electrotransport in pure metals and in substitutional and interstitial solute systems. The general theoretical concepts are illustrated, various experimental observations discussed and the current problems, relating to a fuller understanding of the subject, described. A final section deals with the application of electrotransport in the purification of metals and preparation of high purity, good quality metal crystals. The results of some physical property measurements on metals processed in this manner are given in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the techniques.
