CCD photometry of the massive X-ray binary 2S 0114 + 650*

Abstract
It has been suggested by Finley, Belloni & Cassinelli that the periodic variability in 2S 0114 + 650 found in X-ray observations obtained since 1977 could be attributed to β Cephei-type pulsations of the primary component. New V-band CCD photometry has been obtained in an attempt to confirm the presence of optical variations with a period similar to those found at X-ray wavelengths. More than nine hours of monitoring has clearly demonstrated that no variation is present at levels of more than 0.005 mag. It would appear that the pulsations either do not exist or were not active at the time of observation.
