The role of controllability in some sensitivity problems†

Abstract
The controllability properties of the sensitivity system are shown to play an essential role in a number of control problems. By thoroughly analysing the Jordan canonical form of the sensitivity system, the condition is obtained that such a system is uncontrollable whenever the number of parameters is greater than the number of control variables. Finally, the single input case is completely solved through a necessary and sufficient condition for structural controllability.
