Abstract
The significance of death and lysis processes during microbial growth in chemostat cultures is discussed. A structured model is developed to describe such processes and the model is partially verified for carbon limited chemostat cultures of Klebsiella pneumoniae. It seems probable that death and lysis are coincident, when non-viable cells are not considered to be dead. Keywords
