Abstract
The stomachs of 313 goldsinnies (Ctenolabrus rupestris L.) collected in waters of the Swedish west coast were analysed. Six classes of food animals dominated: Crustacea, Bryozoa, Gastropoda, Hydrozoa, Bivalvia, and Polychaeta. Abundances of bryozoans and hydroids differed according to the sex of the fish stomachs. Food composition varies during the year, and this seems correlated with the growth cycles of the brown algae among which the fish seeks its food. Predation on goldsinnies by other fish species and by birds is briefly discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
