Abstract
This paper presents an information-based approach to simula tion modeling and an information-based simulation environment called IBIS. IBIS uses information relationships to structure simulation models and to coordinate multiple models at different levels of hierarchical development. Because of its database orien tation, IBIS models do not exist as programming code but exist in the form of information links stored in a simulation database. The paper describes a sample manufacturing problem and the IBIS formulation for this problem. The information relationships defined in IBIS allow for hierarchical modeling of stations and entities, flexible product routing, multiple product assembly re quirements, and "push" and "pull" drivers for parts flow. Keywords
