Tactual Discrimination of Textures

Abstract
The purpose of the experiment was to determine the relative discriminability of 40 tactual patterns prepared by a special embossage technique. The method of paired comparisons was used, with 150 Ss, making 200 discrimination judgments each. Marked differences in discriminability were found, with each of at least 11 patterns discriminable enough from all others to be useful in the preparation of material such as maps for the blind.
