A Preliminary Account of the Vegetation of the River Itchen

Abstract
A list of dominant species of this stream in the south of England is given. Environmental factors affecting the nature of the flora are: silt deposition, anchoring power of roots, sunshine, and possibly chemical composition of the water. Plant communities are divided into silted, partly silted, and non-silted types. River plants are discussed with respect to their habitats.
