The Direct Chiral Separation of Some Optically Active Compounds in Essential Oils by Multidimensional Gas Chromatography

Abstract
The direct enantiomeric separation of limonene and linalool in various essential oils is carried out by multidimensional gas chromatography (GC). Both α- and β-cyclodextrin derivative phases are used for chiral separation after preparation on an SE-54 precolumn. The use of multidimensional GC to perform this separation has several advantages: it eliminates interferences from sample matrices; it avoids contamination of the chiral column by high-boiling-point components; and it provides a simple, rapid, and effective method for stereoanalysis of components from various essential oils.
