2) Untuk melanjutkan seri artikel untuk memperkenalkan daerah- daerah Indonesia yang telah dimulai dengan Sumatra-Barat dan yang akan dilanjutkan dengan daerah-daerah lainnya, dalam nomer ini ARCHIPEL menerbitkan sebuah pedoman tentang daerah Sulawesi-Selatan. Kami harap nomer ini akan mendapat sambutan baik dari para pengunjung yang jumlah makin lama makin bertambah dan yang datang untuk mengenai daerah tersebut. Sampai sekarang pedoman semacam ini belum mereka kenal. Selain sejumlah petunjuk yang praktis, para pembaca akan menemukan petunjuk-petunjuk bagaimana mengunjungi daerah Ujung Pandang dan sekitarnya (yang sering kurang diperhatikan karena kurangnya penerangan), serta enam buah trayek yang mudah ditempuh sekaligus dalam suatu perjalanan yang dapat dilakukan dalam waktu yang lebih singkat. Dengan sengaja daerah Toraja hanya dibicarakan dengan secara relatif singkat: dengan ini kami hendak menekankan bah- wa, jauh dari maksud untuk menggambarkannya sebagai daerah kebudayaan yang terpencil, kami akan mengemukakan bahwa kebudayaannya sebenarnya tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kebudayaan lain di propinsi ini. Mudah-mudahan dokumentasi yang kami berikan dapat membantu para wisatawan agar dapat melihat bahwa dibalik pemandangannya yang indah itu serta manusia dengan tradisinya yang banyak dimiliki daerah Sula- wesi-Selatan itu, terdapat suatu latar belakang yang penting pula untuk dikenal dengan lebih baik.2) Continuant une série inaugurée avec Sumatra-Ouest, et qui se poursuivra avec d'autres régions, "Archipel" publie ici un petit guide de Célèbes-Sud, dont nous espérons qu'il sera le bienvenu des visiteurs qui viennent de plus en plus nombreux faire connaissance avec cette Province et ne disposaient jusqu'à présent d'aucun instrument de ce genre. Outre un certain nombre de renseignements pratiques, le lecteur y trouvera des indications pour la visite (souvent négligée, faute d'informations) d'Ujung Pandang et de ses environs, et six trajets aisés à combiner en circuits de plus ou moins longue durée. C'est à dessein que le Pays Toraja n'y a reçu qu'un traitement relativement rapide : on a voulu souligner par là que, loin de constituer un îlot culturel, c'est en fait un élément indissociable d'un ensemble humain qui a la dimension même de la Province. D'autre part, on s'est attaché, chaque fois que l'occasion s'en est présentée, à fournir une amorce de documentation, qui, nous l'espérons, aidera le voyageur à entrevoir qu'au-delà des apparences évidentes ou de ce pittoresque des paysages, des gens et des traditions dont Célèbes-Sud est loin d'être dépourvu, existe tout un arrière-plan méritant d'être mieux connu.2) Continuing a series which started with West Sumatra, and which will be followed by other regions, "Archipel" here publishes a small guide of the South Celebes, which we hope will be welcome by the increasing number of visitors who are discovering this area, and who, until the present had nothing of this sort at their disposal. Besides a certain amount of practical information, the reader will find hints for a visit (often neglected for lack of information) to Ujung Pandang and its environs, and six trips which may be easyly combined into tours of longer or shorter duration. Purposely, the Toraja country has been included with a rather rapid treatment: far for from being a cultural island, it is fact an unseparatable element in the human ensemble which makes up the area. Moreover we attempt each time the occasion arises to furnish an initial documentation, which we hope will aid the traveler to look beyond the obvious appearences and the picturesque countryside people and traditions, which are not lacking in the Celebes, to the background which exists and which merits closer examination.Guide "Archipel" II : La Province de Célèbes-Sud .
