Examination with a binocular microscope of the last 2 posterior segments of the body of the boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis Boheman, reveals differences in appearance and size between the sexes, which permit differentiation with complete accuracy. The 8th tergum of the male is about ½ as wide and long as the 7th tergum of the female. The distinguishing characteristic of the 8th tergum of the male is the notch in its ventral portion.
