Abstract
Summary Obstructive lesions of the urinary tract were causative factors of uraemia in 88 out of 679 uraemic patients (13%). Aetiology was protean. The incidence of certain symptoms, such as paralytic ileus and hypertension is stressed. Obstruction of the urinary tract is often complicated by infection. The choice of antibiotics is based on the sensitivity of the germs and also on metabolic pathways and toxicity of the drugs. Dosage is established on account of the degree of renal failure. The results of the various surgical procedures used to suppress urinary obstruction are reviewed. In some acute cases, extrarenal epuration procedures are necessary. Keywords
