Abstract
A new method is described for determining the Huggins interaction parameter, µ. It is characterized by the measurement of the equilibrium swelling of two completely reacted vulcanizates for which the initial composition is known. The method gives correct results only under definite assumptions which are explained for the case of natural rubber crosslinked by dicumyl peroxide. Its applicability is demonstrated for the system natural rubber/benzene at 25° C; the results, however, scatter considerably.
