Abstract
This study examines the effect of residential home size on the well-being of residents, as measured by such components of the institutional environment as social relations, perceived attitudes of staff towards residents, feelings of loneliness and overall satisfaction with being in the home. One thousand residents were interviewed from 21 sampled Israeli homes for the well aged, nursing homes excluded. The findings indicate that larger institutions (i.e., institutions with more than 90 beds), may well enhance the welfare of their residents.
