Abstract
Neutron inelastic scattering results are presented for Nd, Tb, Dy, and Ho and Er in LaAl2 and crystal field parameters are deduced for all but Ho. Comparison is made with parameters deduced from other types of measurements. The crystal field parameters for the three series RE in LaAl2, YAl2 and REAl2 are discussed and the possible origins of differences indicated. The neutron spectra for Tb in LaAl2 show spectrum narrowing effects previously found only in Ce compounds. Keywords
