Abstract
The application of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) to studies of the liquid/solid interface, especially electrode surfaces, is reviewed. Some general principles describing features of the images obtained by these techniques are proposed and illustrated by examples taken from recent work in the authors' laboratory. Keywords
