‘The question of the validity and scientific status of a particular point of view is of course logically independent from the question of its social function; each is a legitimate topic of inquiry, and the latter becomes of particular interest when the point of view in question is revealed to be seriously deficient, on empirical or logical grounds’ (Chomsky, 1972, p 41).Keywords
