Abstract
Myocardial tissue pressure has been measured after evaluating the conditions of reliability of a modified balloon method. The instantaneous difference between tissue and cavitary pressure was then recorded at various depths of insertion for tissue pressure measurement. The basic pattern of this difference pressure appeared to be a biphasic peak, positive in early systole, negative in early diastole. During reduced ejection a positive difference was present in inner layers, a negative one in outer layers. This difference pressure may indicate the distribution of energy stored during systole possibly as a result of the shear stresses imposed on fibers. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
