Splenectomy for Thrombocytopenic Purpura in Pregnancy

Abstract
Thrombocytopenic purpura occurring during pregnancy is a unique problem that is rarely encontered. Untreated, this condition rapidly worsens during pregnancy. There is no increased incidence of placental separation. Maternal mortality is difficult to determine. Fetal wastage is high. Each case must be individualized and there must be no hesitation in performing splenectomy when the life of the mother is in danger.
