Abstract
Techniques are being sought to impart paramagnetic properties to cotton fibers. The most promising are imbibition of aqueous solutions of rare earth salts and treatment with rare earth and transition element organometallics in hydro carbon solvents. Using the Faraday technique, determinations of the magnetic susceptibility and magnetic force to sample weight ratios were made for treated cottons. The potential applicability and the relative uniformity, efficiency, and practicality of these methods are discussed. Research reported herein is part of a continuing effort to develop means of using nonmechanical forces in cotton textile processing. Keywords
