Modelling High Gain XUV Laser Amplifiers

Abstract
Maximization of amplification; required to realize a saturated XUV laser, is investigated using simulations based on models of fibre and flat plate target geometries. A one-dimensional hydrodynamic code (MEDUSA), coupled with an atomic physics code (NIMP) are used to predict the gain. Results indicate that the use of an irradiated laser with shorter wavelength and shorter pulse using a flat target produces a higher gain. Details of an experiment being planned, based on these results, are given.
