ICES intercalibration for metals in suspended particulate matter

Abstract
The results of a pilot intercalibration for the determination of metals in marine suspended particulate matter are reported. Eight laboratories reported metal analyses for two samples collected in Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia. Results were reported by three or more laboratories for aluminium (Al), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and cobalt (Co). Agreement between laboratories on the metal levels in these samples was good, with coefficients of variation for the reported results that varied between 10 and 30%.
