Abstract
Thirty seven species of large mammals still live (or were living recently) in the lower Senegal valley, western Africa. Despite the extreme seasonality of the climate, breeding periods vary greatly from 1 taxonomic group to the other. Some mammals, like the green monkey Cercopithecus aethiops sabaeus, breed only during the short rainy season, whereas others, like Lepus crawshayi, drop their young at almost any month of the year. Litter size is usually small. Some species, like the warthog and the common jackal, were able to reproduce even during the last period of drought. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
