Abstract
In 1967, Messrs, Wagoner and Duzy presented a paper at the Winter Annual Meeting of the ASME entitled “Burning Profiles for Solid Fuels”, in which they described a derivative thermogravimetric procedure for evaluating the burning characteristics of coal and similar materials. Since that time, others, including Esso Research and Engineering Company, have attempted to duplicate this test in their own laboratories with varying degrees of success. The present paper describes some of the precautions required in setting up the test in other laboratories and gives further information on details of the test procedure which must be followed to obtain comparable results. Burning profiles of three chars obtained from the U. S. Bureau of Mines and of several petroleum cokes are also included. Keywords
