Abstract
Tests were administered to out‐patients before learning meditation. High pre‐test scores on sensitization, suggestibility, introversion, neuroticism and perceived symptomatology predicted a low practice frequency. Gender, expectations, credibility, locus of control and self‐esteem were unrelated to outcome. By two years, 54 per cent had stopped meditating. Meditation appeared to be more rewarding for subjects with milder complaints. Keywords
