Abstract
In order to investigate the variety of the sea breeze pattern, surface wind data in three areas in Japan were analysed statistically. In the criteria for the occurrence of the sea breeze, the direction of the synoptic-scale pressure gradient is an important factor as well as its intensity and the strength of land heating. Furthermore, the sea breeze patterns, which vary from day to day even at the same point, are shown to be influenced systematically by the geostrophic wind direction. Keywords
