Bacteriuria in the First Month Following Renal Transplantation

Abstract
Post-transplantation recipient bacteriuria was present in 44 of 56 renal allotransplants done from 1965 to 1969. Preexisting bacteriuria and urologic complications were the only statistically significant predisposing factors. Results of antibiotic therapy were disappointing, especially when urologic complications were present. An approach to management of this problem based on the type of infecting organism and response to initial therapy is discussed.
