Abstract
This study examines the variety of impacts associated with the demographic shift of older Americans to predominately rural areas. A conceptual model of the rural retirement community is presented. To determine better the short- and long-term impacts of population and community changes over a period of time, an analysis is made of a comparison of recently retired elderly with those classified as old-old. This process focuses on the life-style changes, the service structure and available resources, and the impact these factors have on the elderly migrant's perceived quality of life. Keywords
