Abstract
Accurate potential energy curves for the lowest excited state of 1Σ g + symmetry and for the lowest state of 1Σ u + symmetry have been determined for the He2 2+ ion. The most flexible variational wavefunction used contained 153 linear and two non-linear parameters. The basis functions explicitly included interelectronic dependence and were constructed so that they led to the correct form for the dissociation products. The results are considered to be more accurate than those hitherto published. As well, and for the first time, the rovibronic energies for the two states were calculated. Keywords
