Abstract
The construction and operation of an apparatus for controlled rate corneal freezing was described. The cooling was obtained by close thermal contact between a vial holding the [human] cornea and a metal core. A predetermined cooling rate was achieved by partial immersion of the core in a fixed amount of liquid N2. In a preliminary series .gtoreq. 95% endothelial survival was obtained.
