Abstract
After agreeing with the Holmes Group on the need for professional autonomy and school structures that provide the opportunity for truly professional practice, Futrell expresses reservations about the proposals for differential staffing, the teaching doctorate, and the elimination of the undergraduate major in teacher education. She proposes a national teacher certification board cooperating with state boards to certify all teachers prior to their entry into practice. Keywords
