Physicians who work with infants and children in their daily practices generally seem to be more closely attuned to preventive medicine than other physicians. This may be because of their close contact with immunization procedures designed to prevent or lessen the severity of disease, but whatever the reason, many of them devote much time and effort to lessening the horrendous toll of children in automobile crashes on our streets and highways. In an attempt to enlist the aid of more physicians in helping to prevent thousands of largely preventable injuries and deaths to children in automobile crashes, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics have initiated an educational campaign on safe child restraint systems for automobiles. Physicians will be provided accurate, unbiased information which will enable them to help parents protect their children while traveling in automobiles.
