Abstract
The incidence and nature of the association of arthritis and psoriasis was studied in the patients attending both the Rheumatic Diseases and the Skin Diseases Clinics during the year Oct. 1964 to Sept. 1965. None of 276 psoriatic patients attending the Skin Diseases Clinic showed evidence of a rheumatoid or rheumatoid-like type of arthritis in spite of the severity and chronicity of psoriatic lesions in a good number of these patients. Different musculoskeletal disorders and vague aches and pains were manifested, however, in about 45% of these psoriatic patients. Of the 89 patients with rheumatoid arthritis attending the Rheumatic Diseases Clinic, only 2 had evidence of an associated psoriasis. One of these 2 patients had modified features suggestive of "psoriatic arthritis" while the other had the usual classic rheumatoid type of arthritis. The rarity of association of psoriasis and arthritis in this study and its significance in relation to the possible incidence of the disease in Egypt is discussed. Also, the speculations on the nature of the association between psoriasis and arthritis were discussed in the light of the results of the present study. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
