Abstract
The structure of spirilloxanthin (rhodoviolascin) was unambiguously determined by degradative and nuclear magnetic resonance spectral studies. Similar studies indicated the structures of chloroxanthin, spheroidene (“Pigment Y”), and spheroidenone (“Pigment R”); these structures have been confirmed by total syntheses.Keywords
