Facial Dermatitis

Abstract
To the Editor.— According to Alexander Fisher, MD (written communication, November 1976), this is the first reported case of an acute, urticarial allergic contact dermatitis. Report of a Case.— A 45-year-old woman had a 3½-year history of recurring facial dermatitis that decreased on weekends and cleared during vacations. The patient used facial moisturizers and had been taking a mixture of norethindrone and mestranol (Ortho-Novum 1/50) for several years. She also had unexplained chest and abdominal pains, but results of a complete workup, including complete blood cell count and a blood chemistry study using an automated multiple analysis system, were normal; chest and upper and lower gastrointestinal roentgenograms were also normal. Physical Examination.— The dermatitis that was present on the perioral areas of the face and extended to the vermilion border of the lips was ill defined and without papules; it also extended to the cheeks and chin.
