Demodex criceti n. sp. (Acarina: Demodicidae) with Notes on Its Biology

Abstract
D. criceti is described from the golden hamster, Mesocricetus auratus. This organism is a low grade pathogen apparently only harvesting to contents of cells of the epidermis. No tissue reaction or deposits of pigments are occasioned by the parasite. The stages (ova, larva, nymphs, adults) of the life cycle are detailed. Evidence is presented to indicate that this species is transferred from mother to young hamster during the first few days after birth.
