Abstract
A critical examination of the early descriptions upon which the presently accepted name of the channel catfish of the Great Lakes is based, indicates that the fish described was a burbot, not a channel catfish. This involves 2 changes in current nomenclature. The burbot of the Hudson Bay region, and the waters to the s. and e., should be known as Lota lota lacustris (Walbaum) and the channel catfi6h should revert to its former name of Ictalurus punctatus (Rafinesque). This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
