Abstract
What common ground might be shared by parkinsonian patients and Chilean miners suffering from chronic manganese poisoning? An effort to explain their clinical resemblances in terms of similar biochemical abnormalities in the brain bore fruit eventually in the L-dopa treatment, which is proving effective in both diseases. Dr. Cotzias details the sequence of hypotheses explored along the way. Keywords
