Abstract
A PREVIOUS report in this journal described subnormal pancreatic alpha-cell function in both obese nondiabetic and diabetic subjects.1 However, others have observed in diabetic patients elevated plasma glucagon concentrations that are not decreased by coexisting obesity.2 In the present study plasma glucagon responses to a variety of challenges were assessed in obese women without diabetes. The results do not support the view that plasma glucagon is suppressed in this condition. A preliminary report of these findings has been published.3 MethodsAll volunteer subjects participating in this investigation were nondiabetic, healthy women between the ages of 18 and 35 years who . . .Keywords
