Abstract
The proliferation and increased use of the new communication technologies in India has in no way altered the existing pattern of access to the media and/or information in favour of the majority of the population. The author is convinced that if we want to harness the new technologies and use them to improve the situation of women, as well as to promote the concept and practice of democracy, we must simultaneously work to create the necessary political, economic, social, and cultural climate that will enable the benign use of these technologies for the public good. Keywords
