Abstract
The urine of rabbit given 05 g scatolylhydantoin was extracted 5 times with ethyl acetate. After evaporating the extract, the material was extracted with ethanol. Paper chromatography of this extract using a solvert mixture of butanol-acetic acid-water (4:1:5) produced a spot with an Rf value of 0.59 which gave a positive acid diazo reaction (red coloration) with sulfanilic acid reagent in 3.3% HC1, positive Ehrlich''s aldehyde reaction and green coloration with FeCl3 solution. This substance was identified as 7-hydroxyindole acetic acid. Keywords
