Abstract
Pitting and crevice corrosion of Al alloys and Al-based metal matrix composites can be detected by characteristic changes in the low frequency region of the impedance spectra, which can be described by the pitting model. A fitting procedure (PITFIT) has been developed to obtain the parameters of this model and has been applied to analyze large amounts of impedance data. Good agreement between experimental data and the fitted results has been observed. Keywords
