Radiotherapy and chemotherapy for gliomas

Abstract
This review summarizes papers published within the past year. The value of high-precision radiotherapy techniques, mainly interstitial radiotherapy, was confirmed by several studies. Despite encouraging preliminary results, demonstration of a benefit from radiosurgery and a direct comparison with brachytherapy must await a randomized study. Trials of 78 Gy of hyperfractionated radiotherapy have been disappointing. Interesting results were obtained with interstitial chemotherapy, and several studies found that second-line chemotherapy or immunotherapy regimens could be useful in recurrent gliomas.
